When it comes to recruiting, candidates say clear communication is key.

- One in five job seekers say they’ve taken jobs, only to find out the position didn’t match what was described during the hiring process, according to the 2023 Candidate Interview Experience Report released Thursday by recruiting platform Greenhouse. And 42% said they’ve accepted jobs that had more responsibilities than were shared.
- Thirty-six percent of the 1,200 candidates surveyed said they ghosted employers during the hiring process, 43% of whom said the company didn’t match their expectations.

When it comes to recruiting, candidates say clear communication is key. Seventy percent of those surveyed said poor communication during the hiring process is the biggest red flag, per Greenhouse. That was followed by having a negative interview experience, a wariness to answer questions about pay and vague job descriptions.
Workers are getting more savvy when it comes to the recruiting process, Andrew Fennell, director of CV resource company StandOut CV and a former recruiter, recently told HR Dive.
“Job seekers are starting to get a bit more clued up on how companies operate this kind of stuff and are asking more questions,” Fennell said.
People Managing People, a human resources content provider, shared some insight on how hiring managers can avoid red flags during interviews: create a clear and jargon-free job description, be transparent about financial compensation and why the role is open, follow up promptly, give constructive feedback and share learning and development opportunities
