The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, signed into law on December 29, 2022, included a two-year extension for telehealth services from the initial Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act of 2020 (CARES Act). Under this law, certain restrictions and limitations were removed for telehealth services and payment for such services, allowing patients more access to health care. The CARES Act’s telehealth safe harbor provisions, which allow high deductible health plans (HDHPs) to cover health treatment without cost sharing or meeting deductibles, were extended for plan years beginning January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2024.
