On January 11, 2023, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) extended the Public Health Emergency (PHE) in the United States. This PHE extends the first one declared on January 31, 2020 in response to the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Declaring a PHE allows the Secretary to take certain actions under Section 319 of the PHE Act. Each PHE extension lasts 90 days.
